OROMO FIRST MOVEMENT

ይህንን መጣጥፍ ለመጻፍ ያነሳሳኝ ነገር ቢኖር የኦሮሞ ናሽናሊዝም የደረሰበትን ጥግ ለመጦቆምና ይህንን የወቅቱን መነሳሳት አንድእት ትግሉን አንደሚጠቅም ውይይት ለመጫር ነው፡፡

 ሁላችንም አንደምናውቀው ባለፉት 3 ሳምንታት ገደማ ሁለት ወጣት ፖለቲከኞችና የኦሮሞ ነፃነት ግንባር ተወካይ ከኣልጀዚራ ቲቪ ጋር ባደረጉት ውይይት በጠላት ሰፈር ይህ ነው የማይባል ሁከትና መደናገጥን ፈጥሮዋል፡፡ በፖለቲካ ቋንቋ ኳሷን ከአኛ ክልል ኣውጥተን በኢትዮጵያዊያን ኣንድነት መዳ ላይ መጫወት መጀመራችንን ኣመላካች ነው፡፡ በለላ መልኩ በኦሮሞ ብሓርተኝነት ላይ ትልቅ መነሳሳትን ፈጥሯል፡፡

 አንደዚህ ኣይነት መነሳሳቶች ከብዙ ከብዙ ጊዘ ኣልፎ ኣልፎ የሚመጡ መልካም ኣጋጣሚዎች ናቸው፡፡ በዚህ ኣጋጣሚ በፈጠራቸው አድሎች ከተጠቀምን ወደ ግባችን የሚያቀርበን ሲሆን ተዘናግተን ከቶን ግን ለላ ኣጋጣሚ መጠበቃችን ኣይቀረ ነው፡፡ በተለይ በኦሮሞ ማህበረሰብ ውስጥ ብዙ ጥሩ የሆኑ ኣጋጣሚዎችን ሳንጠቀምበት  ማሳለፋችንን ሳስብ አንደ ኣንድ ኦሮሞ ያበሳጨኛል ይቆጨኛልም፡፡ የዚህ መጣጥፍ ኣላማውም ያንን አንደ ዋዛ ያሳለፍነውን አድል ወይም ኣጋጣሚ በማሳብ ይህ ወጣት ፖለቲከኛ ጀዋር መሓመድ የተጀመረውን  OROMO FIRST MOVEMENT ቀዝቃዛ ውሃ ሳይቸለስበት ገና በትኩሱ ወገኖቸን ላነቃበት ነው

 ኣንድ የፖለቲካ ፓርቲ የውጠት የሚበቃው በኣብዛኛው ኣጋጣሚዎች በሚፈጥሩለት አድል በመጠቀም ነው፡፡ ለምሳለ ደርግ ለስልጣን የበቃው የኢሀፓን የመኢሶን  ኣለመግባባት በፈጠረው ክፍተት በመጠቀም ስልጣኑን ኣደላልደለ በቅርብ ርቀት ላይ ያለው ወያነ ም ቢሆን የተፈጠሩለትን ኣጋጣሚዎች በመጠቀም 22 ኣመት ሀገሪቱን ሊገዛ ቻለ ፡፡ ወያነ የተለቀቁለትን ኣጋጣሚ ከኣብዛኛው ጥቂቱን የሚጠቅመን ከሆነ አንይ

 ገና በረሃ ሳለ አ ኢ ኣ በ1977 በትግራይ ላይ የመጣው ረሃብ የትጥቅ ትግሉን በሁለት አግር ያቆመ የገንዘብ ፈሰስ ማግኘታቸው የፈለጉት ውጠት ኣምጥቶላቸዋል ። ቀጣዩንም ድል ቢሆን የደርግ ጀብደኝነት ና በመኮንኖች ላይ የወሰደው አርምጃ በብዙ ረዳቸው ወያነ (ኣቶ መለስ) የመጣላቸውን ኣጋጣሚ ብቻ የሚጠቀሙ ሳይሆን ኣጋጣሚን መፍጠር ተክነውበታል፡፡ ያልተሳካላቸው

ኣጋጣሚ ኦነግን በኦህደድ መተካት ብቻ ነው ብዙ ጥረዋል ነገር ግን ያ ለማንም የሚሳካ ኣይመስልም

 ስለ ወያነ ብዙ ማንሳት ይቻላል ግን የዚህ ፁሑፍ ኣላማ ኣይደለም ነገር ግን ቢያንስ ከነዚህ ሰዎች ልንማር ይገባል

 ወደ ዋናው ሃሳበ  ስመለስ የኦሮሞን ህዝብ ትግል አንደ ኣንድ ኦሮሞ ስገመግም ብዙ ኣጋጣሚዎችን ያባከነ ትግል አንደሆነ ማንሳትና ያባከናቸውን ወርቃማ ኣጋጣሚዎች መጠቆም ለወደፊቱ ስህተት  አንዳይደገም ይረዳል

1. በዚህ ኣጋጣሚ በ1991 በሽግግር መንግስት ውስጥ በመሳተፉ የተጠቀመውን ጥሩ ኣጋጣሚ ማንሳቱ ተገቢ ይመስለኛል ፡፡ በአነ  አመነት በኦሮሞ ትግል ውስጥ ከተለቀቁት ወርቃማ ኣጋጣሚዎች ውስጥ ኣንዱ ይህ ወቅት ይመስለኛል፡፡ ሁላችንም

አንደምናውቀው የኦሮሞን ህዝብ ከዳር አስከ ዳር ማንቀሳቀስና ለብዙ ኦሮሞዎች ኦሮሞ ነኝ ብሎ መናገር የሽግግር መንግስቱ ጥሩ

ኣጋጣሚና ታላቅ አድል ነው ፡፡ ከዛ በሃላ የተፈጠረውን ስህተት የመልአክተ  ኣላማ ስላልሆነ አርሱን ለድርጅታችንና ለታሪክ ተመራማሪዎች ልተው፡፡

 2. ከዛ በሃላ በ2005 የተፈጠረው የታሪክ ኣጋጣሚ

 ከምርጫ ጋር ተያይዞ በተፈጠረው ውዝግብ ውስጥ ኣንዱና ትልቁ ኣጋጣሚ ሁለት የኢትዮጵያ ጀነራሎች ከበታች መኮንኖችና ቁጥራቸው ከሁለት መቶ በላይ ወታደሮች የኦነግን ሰራዊት ለመቀላቀል መምጣታቸው ጥሩ የታሪክ ኣጋጣሚ ነው፡፡ ይህንን ክስተት አንደ ጥሩ ኣጋጣሚ ለሚያይ ሰው ትልቅ ፖለቲካዊ አንድምታ ነበረው፡፡ አንድምታውም የኦሮሞን ሰራዊት  ማጠናከርና ውጠታማ በማድረግ በኩል ትልቅ ድርሻ ነበረው፡፡ ነገር ግን በወቅቱ በአንዝላልነታችንና በነበረው የኣመራር ክፍተት የተነሳ ድክመታችንን ስላዩ መጥተው መሪ መሆን ፈለጉ ይህም ቀላል ያልሆነ ለፖለቲካዊ ኪሳራ ዳረገን

 3. አነ ጀነራል ከማል ገልቹ በኦነግ ስም ኣዲስ የፖለቲካ ፕሮግራም ፈጠርን ብለው በነ ግንቦት ሰባት ሲጠለፉ የነበረው የኦሮሞ ማህበረሰብ መነሳሳት ቀላል ኣልነበረም አናት ድርጅታችንን ለማዳን ብዙ ኣልን በወቅቱ አምወያያው Cyber Ethiopia በሚባል የኣበሾች የመወያያ መድረክ ላይ ብዙ ተወያየንበት፡፡ ምንም አንኳን ያሰባሰበን የተፈጠረው ስህተት ቢሆንም ለትግላችን ግን የራሱን ኣስተዋፅኦ ኣድርጎ ነበር ነገር ግን ምንም ሳይሰራበት በከንቱ ኣለፈ

 በወቅቱ የነበረውን መነሳሳት ሳስብ ወጣቱን ወደ ኦሮሚያ ተመልሰህ ሃገርህን ነፃ ኣውጣ ተብሎ ቢጠየቅ ኣብዛኛው ለመመለስ የተዘጋጀ ይመስል ነበር፡፡ አኛም ከድርጅታችን ብዙ ጠብቀን ግን ቀስ አያለ አየበረደ መጣ አኛም ወደ ዝምታችን ተመለስን

 4. በቅርብ ኣንጋፋዎቹ የኦነግ ታጋዮች  ከአንቅልፋቸው ባንነው ድንገት ደግሞ ኣነቁን ፡፡ አንደገና የኦሮሞ ብሐርተኝነት አንደ ገና አነርሱንበመቃወም  በመገናኛ ብዙሃን ለምሳለ በFacebook, twitter, paltalk, አና በመሳሰሉት የህዝብ መነሳሳት መጣ ግን የተሰራ ነገር የለም ፡፡ ድርጅታችንን ግን ኣስጣልን ሳስበው በጦርመዳ ቋንቋ አስከዛረ  በመከላከል ላይ ነን አንጂ ወደ ማጥቃት ኣልተሸጋገርንም ኣሁንም ተከላክለን ለድርጅታችን ቃልኪዳናችንን ኣድሰን ወደ በት ገባን

 5. አንደገና ዶ/ር ፍቅረ ቶሎሳ ባቀረቡት መጣጥፍ ላይ የኦሮሞን ማህበረሰብ በሚችል መልኩ ጥሩ ኣጋጣሚ መጣልን ሁለት ሶስት ሳምንታት ጮህን ከዛም ዝም ኣልን

 6. ምንም አንኳን ግሩም ኣጋጣሚ ኣይሁን አንጂ በግብፅ በሚኖሩት ኦሮሞዎች ላይ አየደረሰባቸው የነበረው ኣጋጣሚ ቀላል

የሚባል ኣይደለም የኢሳት ጋዘጠኛ የሆነው ኣበ ቶኪቻው ኣበበ ቶላ ባቀረበው መጣጥፍ ላይ ጥቂት ተጮሀ  ነገር ግን ተመልሶ ዝም ሆነ አነዚህ ኣጋጣሚዎች ለሚያነባቸው ሰዎች ዝም ብሎ ነገር ሊመስል ይችል ይሆናል ቱኒዚያ ውስጥ ኣንድ ወጣት አራሱን

ኣቃጥሎ ለሰመን  ኣፍሪካ ኣብዮት ሁነኛ ምክንያት (ሰበብ) ሊሆን ቻለ

 7. አንደ ፕለቲካ ፓርቲ ኦነግ በኢትዮጵያና በግብፅ መካከል የተፈጠረውን ኣለመግባት ምን አየሰራ አንደሆነ ኣላውቅም ነገር ግን ግብፆች አስኪጠሩን መጠበቅ ያለብን ኣይመስለኝም የግድ በር ማንኳኳት ይኖርብናል ቀርቦም ዲፕሎማሲያዊ ግንኙነት መፍጠር ይኖርብናል፡፡ ግን ባለፈው ወር የኦነግ መህከላዊ ኮሚተ ኣባል የሆኑ ክቡር ኣባጫላ ላታ ሲናገሩ አንደሰማሁት ምንም አየተሰራ ያለር ነገር ኣይመስለኝም  በግብፅ ፓርላማ ውስጥ የኦነግ ስም መነሳቱ ብቻ በቂ ኣይሆንም፡፡ ቢቻል ወዳጅን ማብዛትና መጠቀም ከፖለቲከኞች የሚጠበቅ ነው በምስጢር የሚሰሩት ስራ አንደ ተጠበቀ ሆኖ  ያም ቢሆን የስነ ልቦና ጦርነት ለማካሓድ ይጠቅማል

 8. ለላው ቀርቶ በቅርብ ከኒያ  አንኳ ግልገብ ጊበ 3 ፕሮጀክትን በተመለከተ ማብራሪያ ፈልጋለች ያ ማለት በተለያዩ መንገዶች ልዩነታቸውን ማስፋት ይቻል ነበር ኣስመራ ከመቀመጥ ስትራተጅክ ስፍራ ለኦሮሞ ከኒያ ነው ያንን ቢሰሩበት ትልቅ ድል ዲፕሎማሲያዊ ድል ያስገኝ ነበር

 ከላይ የዘረዘርኳቸው ኣብይት ጉዳዮች ከሞላ ጎደል ጥቅም ላይ ቢውሉ ለትግላችን አንድ አርምጃ ወደፊት ያራምዱናል ቢያንስ ከመከላከል ክልል ወጥተን ወደ ማጥቃቱ ልንገባ አንችል ነበር ካልሆነ አድመ በመቁጠር በማስተዛዘኛ የሚሰጥ ነገር የለም ሊንሰራ ይገባል

 ወደ መነሻ ሃሳበና የዚህ ፁሑፍ ኣላማ ወደ ሆነው ስመለስ OROMO FIRST MOVEMENT የወጣቱ ፖለቲከኛ ጀዋር መሐመድ ና የጋዘጠኛ መሓመድ የኣልጀዚራ ውይይት ይሆናል

 ከሁሉ በማስቀደም ይህንን ላመቻቸው ጋዘጠኛ ና በልጀዚራ ላይ ለቀረቡት ወገኖቸ የከበረ ምስጋናየን ኣቀርባለሁ አንደዚሁም ለኣልጀዚራ ጋዘጠኞች ኣክብሮተ የላቀ ነው

 ወደ ዋናው መነሻየ ስመለስ ባለፉት 3 ሳምንታት የኦሮሞ ብሐርተኝነት ከመከላከል ወደ ማጥቃት የተዛወረበት የፖለቲካ ክስተት ነው፡፡ ለዚህ ማረጋገጫው  በቅርቡ የኣንድነት ሃይሎች በደቡብ ኣፍሪካ የኦነግ ኣባላትንና ሁሉን ያካተተ ስብሰባ ጠርተው በራሳቸው መድረክ መስማት የማይሹትን የኦሮሞ ወጣቶች መድረኩን ሙሉ በሙሉ ሊባል በምችል መቆጣጠራቸው ለአማኝነት የሚጠቀስ ነው  OROMO FIRST የኦሮሞን ፖለቲካዊ ትግል ኣንድ ደረጃ ወደ ላይ ከፍ አንዳደረገው አናያለን ለዚህም ነው በዋሽንግተን ኗሪ የሆነውን ኦሮሞ ጋዘጠኛ ላይ ዛቻና ከዛም ያለፈ ነገር የደረሰበት በመወያያ መድረኮች ሁሉ OROMO FIRST ትልቅ የፖለቲካ ኣጀንዳ ሆኖ የቀረበው ፡፡ ኢትዮጵያዊያን በሚወያዩበት መድረክ ሁሉ ጁዋር ሲወገዝና “አኛው ኣክብረነው አኛን ኣዋረደን” አስኪሉ ድረስ ጥላቻና ኣሉባልታ ሲነዛበት የከረመው በዚሁ ሳምንት ውስጥ ነው ፡፡በኣጠቃላይ የኢትዮጵያ ኣንድነታካባቢ “በኣህያ ጅማት የተሰራ በት  ጅብ ሲጮህ መፈራረስ ይጀምራል” አንደሚባለው ኣውረነታችውንና ድብቅ ኣላማቸውን ሲተገብሩ ኣየን

 ኣንድ ነገር ግን በኣትኩሮት ልንመለከት የሚገባው የኢትዮጵያዊያን ጎራ ሲቀጭጭና የኦሮሞ ብሐርተኝነት ሲጎለብት ነው አንደ ኣለ መታደል ሆኖ የኣንደኛው ጥንካረ በለላኛው ውድቀት ላይ መመስረቱ ነው የኦሮሞ ብሐርተኝነት ሲዳሽቅ ኢትዮጵያዊነት  ይነሳል፡ የኦሮሞ ብሐርተኝነት ሲያብብ ኢትዮጵያዊነት ይከስማል ስለዚህ ኣንዱ በለላው ላይ ትግል ማካሐዱ የማይቀር ነው፡፡ በዚህ ውስጥ ኳሷን በኣግባቡ የሚጫወታትና የተቃራኒውን ኣሰላለፍ በሚገባ ያጠነ ኣሸናፊ ይሆናል

 የኦሮሞ መጠናከር ብዙ ኦሮሞዎችን ካሉበት ቦታ ኣውጥቶ የትግሉ ኣካል ሲያደርጋቸው መዳከሙ ደግሞ በተቃራኒው ይጎዳል ስለዚህ ምን አየታሰበ ነው?

ከዙህ በታች ያሉትን ጥያቀዎች ለፖለቲከኞቻችንና ለማህበረሰቡ አንድንወያይበትና የትግሉን ቀጣይነት አንድናረጋግጥ ይረዱናል፡፡

 ጥያቀዎቸ

1.    ኣሁን አየተነሱ ያሉትን ወጣቶች አንደት ነው የትግሉ ኣንድ ኣካል ኣድርገን ልንጠቀምባቸው የምንችለው?

2.    አነዚህንስ ውይይቶች አንደት ነው ወደ ኣገር በት ማስገባት የሚቻለው በተናጠል ከሚሆን በተደራጀ መልኩ አንድእት መስራት ይጠበቅብናል?

3.   ትግሉን አንድእት ኣድርገን ነው ከታሰረበት አስር በት ኣውጥተን ወደ መዳ የምንወስደው ?

4.   ትግሉን አንደት ፕርስክቲካል ማደረግ ይኖርብናል ?

5.    በየከተማው የምንገኘውን የኦነግ ደጋፊዎችንና ኣባላትን ያደራጀ ኣንድ ግብረ ሃይል ተቋቁሞ ገንዘብ ያለን በገንዘባችን ጊዘ ያለን በጊዘችን ጉልበት ያለን በጉልበታችን የኦሮሞን ማህበረሰብ ማሰባሰብ አንደምንችል ግልጽ የሆነ ውይይት ተካህዶ በአያንዳንዱ ኣባልና ደጋፊ ላይ ስራ አንዲሰራ ማድረግ

6.   የፖለቲካ ምሑራን የፓርቲያችን ዋነኛ ችግር ና መፍትሐው ምን አንደሆነ ጥናታዊ ጹሑፍ ኣቅርባችሁ ብንወያይበት

በአሁኑ ወቅት የኦሮሞ ፖለቲካዊና ዲፕሎማሲያዊ እድገት እርር ድብን ያደረጋቸው የአጼዎቹ ቡችሎች በአጼዎቹ ልጆች በተፈጠሩ ሚዲያዎች ላይ አንድን ግለሰብ በማስታከክ በኦሮሞ ህዝብ ላይ የቃጡትን ሀሰታዊ የፖለቲካ ዘመቻ ለህመማቸው ፈውስ ሳይሆን ማባባሻ እንደሆነ ልናስጠነቅቃቸው እንወዳለን።

ነጻነት ዲሞክራሲና እኩልነት ስራ ላይ በሚውልበት ሀገር ውስጥ እየኖሩ ስለነጻነት ዲሞክራሲና እኩልነት የማይረዱ ግለሰቦች በምን አይነት መልኩ ሊማሩ እንደሚችሉ መገመት አዳጋች ነው። ለማመን በጣም አስቸጋሪ የሚሆነው ደግሞ እነዚህ ግለሰቦች በትምህርት ደረጃ ማእረጋቸውና በአስተሳሰባቸው መሀከል ያለው ርቀት የሰማይና የመሬት ያህል መሆኑ ነው።

ለመሆኑ ማነው እነሱን የኢትዮጵያ ባለቤትና የኢትዮጵያዊነት ትርጉም ፈቺ ያደረጋቸው? የፈለጉትን ንፁሕ ኢትዮጵያዊ: የፈለጉትን ጠንካራ ኢትዮጵያዊ: እንዲሁም ባንዳ ወይም ከሃዲ እያሉ የሚጠሩበትን መስፈርት ማነው የሰጣቸው? የአጼዎቹ አሊያም የአምባገነኑ የደርግ ስርአት መስፈርት መሆኑ ነው?

አክራሪ ወይም ሽብርተኛ የሚለውስ ከመለስ ዜናዊ ተኮርጆ ነው?

ከሁሉ አስቀድመን እነሱ በሚረዱት የሳባ ፊደል ሀ ብለን ልናስተምራቸው የምንወዳቸው ነጥቦች:

1ኛ፡ አሁን ኢትዮጵያ ተብላ የምትጠራው ኢምፓየር የአጼዎቹ ንብረት ሳትሆን አጼዎቹ በጉልበት የፈጠሯት እንደሆነች፡ ያም ማለት የኢትዮጵያ ወራሾች የአጼዎቹ አመልኪዎች ብቻ ሳይሆኑ የአጼዎቹ ሰለባዎችም መሆናቸውን፡

2ኛ፡ ኢትዮጵያዊነት ነህ፡ነሽ ተብሎ የሚሰጥ ዜግነት ሳይሆን ህዝቦች በፈቃዳቸው ወደው የሚቀበሉት የማንነት መገለጫ መሆን እንዳለበት፡ ያንን ለማምጣት ደግሞ ለምን ቅድሚያ ኦሮሞ ነኝ አልክ እያሉ የጥላቻና የሀሰት ዘመቻ በጀዋር ወይም በሌሎች ኦሮሞዎች ላይ በመክፈት ሳይሆን ውይይቶችን በማካሄድና ነጻ የሃሳብ መድረኮችን በመፍጠር እንደሆነ::

እኛ በአውሮፓ የኦሮሞ ወጣቶችና የሴቶች ማህበራት በአሁኑ ወቅት በአልጀዚራ ላይ ቅድሚያ ኦሮሞ ነኝ በማለቱ ብቻ በፖለቲካ ምሁሩ ጀዋር ላይ የተከፈተውን የሀሰት ዘመቻ ማውገዝ ብቻ ሳይሆን ለመከላከልም በመገደዳችን ይህ አይነቱ አጼያዊ ዘመቻ እስኪያቆም ድረስ ከቅርብ ጊዜ በፊት ከሰላም ወዳድ የአንድነት ሀይሎች ጋር የጀመርነውን የቅርርብ ዲያሎጎችና የሀሳብ ልውውጦች በይበልጥ ልንገመግምው ወስነናል። ምክኒያቱም አንዳንድ ጉዳዩን ሊረዱ የማይችሉ ወይም ሊረዱ የማይፈልጉ ግለሰቦች የኛን የቅን አካሄድ እጅ እንደመስጠት አድርገው ሲሰብኩና የኦሮሞ ህዝብ ትግልንም ውጤት አልባና ውድቅ አድርገውም ሊጽፉ ሲሞክሩ ይታያሉ።

በአጼዎቹና በአምባገነኑ ዘመን የነበረውን የኦሮሞ ህዝብ ፖለቲካዊና ማህበራዊ መልክና ይዘት ከአሁኑ ጋር ሲነጻጸር ያለውን ለውጥ በፊልም ካላሳየናቸው በቀር እንደማይገባቸው አሁን አሁን ተረድተናል።

ከ 15 እስከ 25 ሚሊዮን የሚጠጋው በቋንቋው እየተማረ ያለው የኦሮሞ ልጅ በማን የትግል ውጤት እንደሆነ ምናልባት በእግዚአብሄር መልዕክተኛ ካልተነገራቸው በቀር ሰው የሚነግራቸውንም ሆነ በአይናቸው የሚያዩትን ማመን ተስኗቸዋል።

ያም ሆነ ይህ እነዚህን ትምክህተኞች በወንድማችን ጀዋር ላይ እያደረጉ ያሉትን አጼያዊ ዘመቻ ለራሳቸው ህልውና ሲሉ እንዲያቆሙ እያስጠነቀቅናቸው፡

1ኛ፡ ሌሎች በዲያስፖራና በሀገር ቤት የሚገኙ የነጻነት: የዲሞክራሲና የእኩልነት መብት ታጋዮች ሁሉ ይህንን አጼያዊ ዘመቻ እንዲያወግዙ እንጠይቃለን።

2ኛ፡ በዲያስፖራና በሀገር ቤት የሚገኙ ሁሉም የኦሮሞ ኮሚዩኒቲዎች፡ የባህልና የጥናት አካዳሚዎች፡ የወጣቶችና የሴቶች ማህበራት እንዲሁም የፖለቲካ ድርጅቶች ይህ ዘመቻ የተከፈተው በጀዋር ላይ ብቻ ሳይሆን በኦሮሞ ህዝብ ላይም እንደሆነ አጢነው ተገቢዉን እርምጃ እንዲወስዱ እናሳስባለን።

እኛም በመጀመሪያ ደረጃ ኦሮሞ ነን።

Human Rights Groups: Donor Countries Fuel Abuse in Ethiopia

LONDON — Two new reports published this month say sustainable development in Ethiopia is impossible without a specific focus on human rights. The reports say donor countries should bear responsibility for ensuring their aid money is not used to fuel abuse.

Ethiopia receives billions of dollars in international aid every year. It is money that is used to help improve basic services like access to health and education.

But human-rights campaigners say there also is widespread abuse that takes place in Africa’s second most populous country. And they say donors need to face up to what role their aid money might play in fueling that abuse.

Leslie Lefkow, the deputy director for Human Rights Watch's Africa Division, said, “The Ethiopian government is resettling large numbers of pastoralists and semi-pastoralist communities in the name of better services. But often this resettlement process is accompanied by very serious abuses.”

Human rights groups say so-called “villagization” has been marred by violence, including rapes and beatings, and people are often forced to leave their homes against their will. They also say the new villages lack adequate food, farmland, healthcare and education facilities.

Lefkow said the World Bank is turning a blind eye. “In Ethiopia you have several years’ worth of rising concerns of human rights and yet you do not really see that being absorbed in the monitoring and in the practice of donors across the spectrum, so not just the World Bank,” she said.

The World Bank is the world’s top aid donor, with a $30 billion annual budget.

Right now the World Bank is undergoing a review of its safeguard policies, a process that began last year.

Human Rights Watch, a New York-based campaign group, says now is the time for it to commit to respecting and protecting human rights.

“Unlike some of the other international financial institutions, the European development bank and the African development bank, for example, is looking at reviewing some of its policies and explicitly committing to human rights, but the World Bank does not have that, even on paper.”

Another group, the U.S.-based Oakland Institute, published a report last week highlighting donor countries’ roles in alleged Ethiopian abuse.

It said Britain and the United States have ignored abuses taking place in the Omo Valley as the government forces tens of thousands of people from their land.

Executive Director Anuradha Mittal of the Oakland Institute, an independent policy think tank, says forced evictions are taking place in order to make way for commercial farming and a major new dam. She says money from donor countries supports the new projects.

“There is also support for infrastructure projects such as power lines and the rest, which are linked to the large dams that have been built, for instance, the dam in Lower Omo, which has been built to provide irrigation and electricity to the investors,” she said.

The Ethiopian government says sugar plantations in the region and the new dam, which will be Africa’s largest, are key to bringing energy and development to the country. VOA contacted the government for a reaction on the Oakland Institute report, but did not get a response.

Britain’s Department for International Development says its assistance in Ethiopia helps millions.

Oromo Seeks Justice in Ethiopia on AJstream was intended to offer a perfect pitch to beat TPLF through compelling evidences and hard facts to its shame in its attendance. In yet another blow to its legitimacy and mounting human rights records, predictably, TPLF decided to play with no presence. With its defence Dr. Fido Ebba and midfielder Mohamed Adamo on line, and the cheetah striker Jawar Mahammed on forefront, the Oromo team scored all possible goals in all possible ways. It is widely expected all nations and nationalities struggling against the domination of TPLF club hegemony would support the effort of the Oromo team and applaud any substantial gains. It turned out that is faulty assumption.

It seems the blow has multiplied and magnified to reach beyond TPLF to upset many more personalities in Abyssinian club to wage cyber war against not only the Oromo team but also the Oromo people behind the team. In fact, the hooligans have tried to physically compromise Oromo individual(s) in desperate attempt to silence them. But this has proved to be a momentum strengthening the unity among the Oromos and their players to defend the Oromo interest based on not empty pride and prejudice but only through facts and truth.

The Abyssinians, particularly the neo-dergist and modern diaspora Naftenga [so called first class fans] sect, was quite quick to start a beef with the Oromo team and the Oromos. They started labelling the players and undermining the Oromo team’s cause for fair play. But the Oromos did not say much as the match was yet to kick off.

Unlike the fragile Abyssinians who spasm their limbs and hands out of control just to ’attack‘, Jawar et.al scored goals using header through well routed and played moves. Jawar has become most valuable player of heading generation that examples the growing tradition of training players to rather use heading that has become more effective. Anyone familiar with the play knows such goals are powerful messages of passion, moral and determination that resonate to people of overwhelming joy to stay deep in their taught and spirits.

Let me once again enumerate the goals to my delight.

Mohamed Adamo scored the opening goal as he ran up and down tirelessly to pitch the Oromo issue at a venue that assigns the proper weight to the unfair domination of few clubs over the Oromo people in a league that has no law. He fought to make way to expose the inhuman treatment of the Oromo people to the world viewer at large and he succeeded. Ofcourse one big smart header goal.
As a mature and strong personality among the team’s players, Dr. Fida Ebba defended the Oromo cause effectively. He exposed the constant abuses, human rights violations, detentions, killings and cultural genocide by the hulugans against the Oromo people to the match referees. Another well deserved header goal.

The biggest blow and moral backlash to the Abyssinian club came as Jawar transcended from defensive to offensive position. He splinted firmly to denounce the inherent oppressions of Oromos targeted at luting its natural resource and keeping it under a constant hegemony. He demanded the Oromos should be given a fair political power and should govern themselves and their natural resources. Another goal well deserved.

What annoyed the Abbyssinians was not the goal Jawar scored but rather the way he celebrated it. He famously ran to the corner towards the Oromo people to display his natural engrave read ‘I’m Oromo First’ in his heart. This phrase was about to be the most loved among the Oromos and equivalently hated among the Abbyssinians. The Oromos chanted ‘I’m Oromo first’ alongside Jawar victoriously. That point and time has probably marked the biggest margin between the Abbysinians and Oromos. It also showed who is for and against fair play.

The goals came at a turning point in Ethiopian empire league history. The Oromo people have suffered not only from a play that is dominated by corruption and match-fixing perpetuated by European referees but also from lack of organization and cooperation within to defend and counter-attack. In a a season that lasted 120 years, this particular match has given a sweeping victory paving a way towards a cup of liberation and freedom

The Refugee Series: Changing Times & Thriving Industries

With the recent BBC documentary on the abuses suffered by Ethiopian refugees in Yemen, you have to stop and reflect on the pattern that has developed in recent times. From the conflict in Bale in the 1960′s, to the exodus after the Ethio-Somali war in 77-78, earlier refugees faced their share of hardship travelling through harsh terrain, hostile territory, with very little to survive on. Once they arrived in countries like Somalia, and Djibouti, many were settled in refugee camps, while many went into the cities to find work and earn a living where they would learn the language and become part of society, before going to register themselves at the UN. During the reign of Siad Barre in Somalia, Oromo refugees fleeing Ethiopian government persecution settled in Somalia by the hundreds of thousands, some figures quoted put that number at over a million. While some would settle in Somalia, many would make their way to Saudi Arabia either with Somali national passports, or smuggled by boat to the coastal town of Jizan. This was in the late 1970′s and 80′s, and refugees found plenty of opportunity for settlement and employment although there was always the risk of being arrested at a random checkpoint and deported for those without working permits. Sheikh Abdulaziz ibn Baz, one of the prominent Islamic scholars in Saudi Arabia at the time lobbied the Saudi government to issue Oromo refugees working permits, citing their persecution in their home country. Unfortunately this program was eventually discontinued at the request of Oromo community leaders after it became a tool in a turf war between Oromo political factions. However, Oromos continued to emigrate, settle and work in the Kingdom while closely following the situation in their homeland. Eventually many went on to resettle in the west. Others found their way to countries like Egypt before finally resettling in europe.

Today things are quite different. With the global economic downturn and increased security due to international conflicts many countries have implemented tougher measures against immigration, or have closed their doors altogether. With poverty and unemployment on the rise we’ve seen societies shift towards intolerance, racism and xenophobia towards immigrants. Besides the official immigration policies, we’re also seeing another trend develop and that’s the exploitation and abuses that occur whenever you have a weak and vulnerable population without anobody to protect their rights. The human smuggling industry has become one of the more lucrative industries in the horn of Africa. If you do the math, when you have thousands of people being smuggled every month, each paying hundreds of dollars to their smugglers, you have an industry which generates hundreds of thousands of dollars every month. A large amount of money in that part of the world (or any part of the world for that matter). There is also the threat of armed gangs kidnapping and holding refugees for ransom as we’ve seen in Yemen, as well as in the Sinai dessert in Egypt (with the recent kidnappings of Eritrean refugees).

With the collapse of the governments in Somalia, and Yemen, both countries which many Oromo refugees pass through to enter Saudi Arabia (the land of milk and honey) the lawlessness fuels these industries. In places like northeastern Somalia (Puntland) and Yemen officials are bribed and security forces often become involved in acts of banditry themselves. With the capitalist mindset, xenophobic hatred and vulnerable state of the refugees, refugees become exploited and treated in the most brutal manner by armed gangs. They become slaves, concubines, hostages and anything that maximizes the gangs income and pleasure. A recent BBC documentary in Yemen exposed a camp belonging to an armed gang holding refugees for ransom. Not only had Yemeni authorities been aware of the camps, but they actively participated in the kidnapping operations. Underpaid government soldiers were employed by the gangs to round up refugees and hand them over to the gang. Men were beaten, women were raped, and the bodies of many unidentified hostages are regularly found dumped in the desert. Those who reached the UN’s safe camps wanted nothing more than to return to their countries.

If this issue continues I can safely say that the smuggling industry, which gave birth to the kidnap and ransom industry, will soon give birth to other crueler industries, and the world will continue to turn a blind eye. Nobody will solve our problems for us. The root of the problem is the issue causing us to leave our country in the first place. We have to fix our countries.
