Incident report from Cairo: Knife attack on Abdi Obsa (157/2012) and Attempt Against Yusuf Bariso (UNHCR No.: 1397/2009)
July 8, 2013, Cairo, Egypt
The attack on Oromo refugees in Egypt has continued as we speak. Attached is a picture of a young man attacked by a knife on July 6 as he and his friend were looking for dinner. His friend survived the knife attack by running away. If you can read Afan Oromo you can see their dire situation they are in (below) from the message their chairman sent me. They need your immediate help until the UNHCR is able to relocate them from where they are stranded. Galatoomaa/Mosisa

Abdi Obsa and Yusuf Bariso were going to look for dinner when three Egyptian men attacked Abdi at around 9pm on his left hand saying “you are among the Ethiopians who demonstrated in front of the UNHCR and complain against our people. Your country is cutting our Nile and you blame our people to UNHCR.”
They were three young Egyptian men who tried to beat them and finally attacked Abdi on his left hand as shown on the attached picture. Abdi said they felt angry with foreigners and said to them we are done with Mursi and we will remain with you.
At this moment, one of them three pulled out knife and attacked Abdi on his left hand. They also tried to attack Yusuf Bariso and he manged to ran away with Abdi in order to save their lives. We took them to 6 October hospital, and also reported to police station. We kindly ask the UNHCR office to take necessary steps to move our people to safer place in Cairo.
